Loneliness: the importance of simply being there

A chance meeting in Hyde Park was a salient reminder for me about the importance of connecting, and the dangers of loneliness.

Probably more so now than ever, we need to make sure that we reach out to others.

Simply being with someone, can be extremely therapeutic for them (and us).

However, we should be fully present, and avoid being judgmental.

Science v Greed

Although the Covid 19 vaccine rollout has been a great success in the UK, we must continually update our understanding about what is the best way forward.

For some organisations, protecting people from C19 is extremely lucrative.

We need ongoing open conversations between experts with different opinions to help create the optimal road map.

And we must not allow commercial interests to affect the scientific method.

Lockdowns and school closures have had a terrible effect on the mental health of children and adolescents

Covid 19 has caused real physical, mental, and economic suffering.

A recent study suggests that 4 out of 5 children and adolescents have suffered potentially severe and long term mental health problems, in part due to lockdowns and school closures.

I worry that they, and many adults are not particularly resilient as we head closer to Winter.

This video raises awareness of these extremely concerning findings, and also highlights a couple of very quick strategies we can employ that may help. However, much, much, more is required, and I will revisit this situation soon.

Stoicism: Impermanence

One Stoic approach to life encourages considering the concept of ‘the last time’. It is a simple and yet powerful strategy which can allow us to, on one hand, contemplate that all physical things will ultimately cease to exist, whilst on the hand, enable us to savour the present. This is a (very) brief summary.
